How to Get from Lihue Airport to Hanalei Bay Resort’s Front Desk

If you’re flying into Kauai and staying at Hanalei Bay Resort in Princeville, the drive from Lihue Airport is part of the adventure. It takes about an hour, and the route is easy to follow, filled with island scenery that sets the tone for your stay.

After picking up your rental car at Lihue Airport, take Highway 51 to head north by taking Highway 56 (Kuhio Highway). This main road will take you along Kauai’s eastern shoreline, passing through small towns like Wailua and Kapaʻa. You’ll see ocean views on one side and mountains on the other — a beautiful introduction to the Garden Island.

Continue following Highway 56 as it curves inland toward Kilauea. After passing the Princeville Shopping Center, keep an eye out for the Princeville entrance sign. Turn into the main Princeville community and follow Ka Haku Road, the winding road that leads toward Hanalei Bay.

Stay on Ka Haku Road until you reach the end, where you’ll find the entrance to Hanalei Bay Resort on your right. Drive down the property’s sloped driveway to the bottom, where signs will guide you to the Front Desk and guest check-in area.

The resort staff are warm, helpful, and ready to get you settled quickly so you can start enjoying the pools, grounds, and nearby Puu Poa Beach. The whole trip is easy, scenic, and a great way to begin your North Shore getaway.
