Risk and reward

Perched atop lush cliffs in Princeville, Hanalei Bay Resort offers guests an idyllic base for beach days and active escapes. A winding footpath (or convenient resort shuttle) leads down to a stretch of shoreline near Puu Poa Beach, where you can swim, snorkel, or bask in North Shore sunsets. The nearby Hanalei Bay is also a celebrated surf spot, with paddleboarding and outrigger canoe experiences just around the corner.

Tennis is at the heart of the resort’s identity: there are eight courts — four hard-surface and four synthetic turf — operated by Peter Burwash International, with a full pro shop, private lessons, drills, cardio tennis, round-robins, and junior programs. Under the guidance of long-time pro Mary Dang-Hannsz, the tennis program hums year-round.

Guests also benefit from a concierge service that helps arrange kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, and even helicopter tours above the island.

Historically, the resort was built as part of Princeville’s original vision as a “golf and tennis resort community” dating back to the early 1970s. This legacy lives on today, making active play feel woven into the very fabric of Hanalei Bay Resort — all framed by panoramic mountain-and-ocean views that are uniquely Kauai.
